34 years later … As a Miami native, this was the first hurricane that made landfall in #SOFLO in my lifetime. There’s still visual residuals. So many trees were taken out, forever changing sight lines - just a few years ago my aunt was visiting and we were traveling down the Turnpike and she said you couldn’t see ‘that’ from this highway before could you? This was also back when CBS was on channel 6, and you didn’t need to dial an area code because it was all 305!! 954 didn’t come along until about 3 years later. We spent the night at the station & witnessed a storm unlike anything we’d ever seen. The snippets from the station were taken by my Program Director at the time. Thanks, Peter Bolger! Soon after, Neighbors Helping Neighbors was born. I worked mornings at the time & then went over to where they had a makeshift center to answer phones. The anchors for their live broadcast were Maria Genero & Khambrel Marshall. It’s a major part of South Florida’s history and I’m grateful I was in a position to help. #HurricaneAndrew
