A French mayor put himself between student protesters and riot police as tensions escalated outside a school in Saint-Denis. Bally Bagayoko, the mayor of Saint-Denis, was seen standing in front of students with his arms outstretched as police moved toward the crowd. Bagayoko repeatedly called for officers to stop before he was hit with tear gas. The confrontation comes amid weeks of student protests across France over conditions in the country’s schools. Students have been demanding more teachers and resources while raising concerns about overcrowded classrooms and deteriorating school buildings. Thousands have been taken into custody since the protests began, many of them minors. Bagayoko has spoken in support of the students and their demands, saying young people are asking for the resources they need to learn. (🎥: YouTube/SBSNews)
