Episode 569 of @dressed_podcast Bog Fashion: Dressing the Bronze and Iron Ages with Nicole DeRushie of @grounded_history Ancient textiles scholar-practitioner Nicole DeRushie joins us to discuss her recently released book Bog Fashion: Recreating Bronze and Iron Age Clothes. And as the book’s title suggests, Nicole does more than just study four thousand year old fashion, she recreates it using ancient techniques and materials. Her historic recreations includes this skirt and top found in the Bronze Age grave of the teenage girl who became famously known as the “Egtved Girl” when her grave was first iscovered in Egtved, Denmark in 1921. The grave—and thus clothing— dates to 1370 BC. Nicole recreated her woolen tunic “using drop spun Manx Loaghtan wool, handwoven and then hand sewn and embroidered using bone needles.” The skirt she recreated with the same wool “woven with the aid a rigid heddle. All the cords are finger plyed.” Videos and images courtesy of @grounded_history #dressed569
