“I've never advocated for a tax increase.” Andy Biggs is pushing back against an attack ad about his tax record — and Mike Broomhead is asking what’s behind the attack ads accusing Biggs of wanting to raise taxes by around 20%. Biggs says the accusation takes his involvement with a federal tax proposal out of context, arguing that his goal is to discuss changing how Americans pay taxes — not simply adding another tax to their bills. Biggs says all he has done is called for a discussion to examine how a consumption tax would work, what the trade-offs would be and whether such a change is feasible. He also points to his record on taxes and says his platform includes reducing — and potentially eliminating — the income tax. Watch the exchange as Broomhead asks Biggs to explain the ad, his involvement with the proposal and what he says his position actually is.
