Jesse Owens was an Olympic sprinter and long jumper. He went to the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany, where he won four gold medals. Owens had incredible courage to go to the Olympics in 1936, during the height of Nazi Germany and racist ideologies everywhere. Owens overcame physical, economic, and racial barriers to become one of the greatest athletes of all time, and the first world renowned African American sports star. In so doing, he publicly refuted bigoted attitudes toward African Americans and set an example for personal excellence and achievement in all of his endeavors. #BlackHistoryMonthSpotlight #BHM #JesseOwens BHM Spotlight brought to you by Amerigroup!
