Tennessee tried to execute Christa Pike last night… twice. Two lethal injections, and she still didn't die. She was reportedly conscious longer than expected and even snoring before they called an ambulance to take her to a hospital. Pike has been on death row since the mid-90s for the torture and murder of a 19 year old girl, so pity is in short supply here. But this raises real questions about the quality and shortage of drugs like pentobarbital being used for these procedures. Now the state has a mess on its hands. Her death warrant carries a time limit, so do they restart the whole process, or does this count as cruel and unusual punishment at this point?
