Black History isn’t just in the books—it’s a living, breathing movement.
Black History isn’t just in the books—it’s a living, breathing movement. This past weekend, the 2nd Annual Black History Month Market & Celebration showed exactly what that looks like at The Practice Facility (@thepracticefacility) in Tigard, Oregon. It was really dope to see the community gather at this Black-owned venue to celebrate culture and commerce. A huge shoutout to Juma Blaq (@jumablaq) for his vision in bringing this together for a second year. Juma is a true “doer” who created a vital space to celebrate Black excellence and entrepreneurship in a city that desperately needs such representation. We caught up with the “Dream Team” of hosts: Tra’Renee (@therealtrarenee), Cool Nutz (@coolnutz) and DJ O.G. ONE (@djogone) What made this even more historic? It was the first time ever in their legendary careers—spanning over 25 years each—that all three appeared together on the same bill to host an event. Tra’Renee highlighted the importance of bringing this vibrant energy to Tigard, showing the community that “we out here” and providing essential resources for everyone from youth to elders. Cool Nutz spoke on the power of the Black marketplace, proving that our businesses are thriving and active in the professional space. DJ OG ONE shared a major milestone: November 30th has officially been proclaimed DJ OG ONE Day in the City of Portland, honoring over 30 years of his leadership and community impact. From the local vendors and 3-point shootouts to the community resources, the energy was unmatched. Converge Media was proud to be on the ground to document these moments because these leaders aren’t just making history—they ARE Black History. Shout out to Elaine Victoria for her rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing Be on the lookout for the full story on Back2Besa with @besagordon on @fox13seattle #BlackHistoryMonth #TigardOR #ConvergeMedia #LivingHis
