Upcoming online fashion history course: What Women Wore to the Revolution: 1850s-1920s *sign up at the link in my bio* Chanel is often misidentified as the sole “inventor” of modern women’s fashion in the 1920s but in reality, there were several designers in the pre WWI era who first began offering their clients corset-free and optional clothing that embodied the core values of modern fashion: clothing given form by the wearer’s natural body not cumbersome undergarments, clothing that offered the wearer comfort and simplicity with nothing loss to chicness or elegance. These values would find their fullest fruition in the 1920s but it was something put in motion before WWI (1914-1918) and blossomed during it, especially as millions of women went to work, demanding comfortable clothing in the process. #fashion #fashionhistory I would wear any of these dresses today. Would you?
