Mexico losing breaks my heart. But this right here is what makes the bittersweetness worth it. It was the moments with my children watching the games. It was moment I spent with my teenager in Guadalajara watching the game with my dad. For many Mexican Americans, la Selección Mexicana is the beginning of our love for our identity. It’s where so many of us first feel connected to who we are and our desire to protect our identity begins. That is what this team does to you. I was 10 years old when I fell in love with the Mexican national team. And that wasn’t just the beginning of my love for the sport, it was the beginning of my love for who I am and where I come from. The sacrifices my parents made, all represented and carried by this team. For so many Mexican Americans, la seleccion is more than a team, more than 11 players on the field. It’s our first emotional connection to our culture and this beautiful duality we carry. The first time we we feel where we come from. The inherited pride, belonging, and a piece of ourselves we may not have had words for before. But La selección gives us those words. Watching my teenager celebrate, he wasn’t just cheering for Mexico. He was also discovering a part of himself. 🫀 @miseleccionmx @yosoy8a @raulalonsojimenez9 @julianquinones33 todos!!!!!! You gave our children memories and our families moments we’ll never forget. And for so many Mexican Americans, you gave us another chance to feel deeply connected to who we are. No other jersey carries the hearts of two countries like Mexico. Gracias por todo. Same time in four years? 🇲🇽🫀
