This year we are reading more and I am going to tell you how!

This year we are reading more and I am going to tell you how! By joining our Read with Patty book club. You can join by clicking the link in my profile. Every month we select a new book and read it together. And this month’s book club pick is East of the River by @lupewhat . 🌹🌹🌹 I cried within the first 20 pages of this book. There was sadness and nostalgia, but mostly this overwhelming feeling of being taken back to my own childhood. To a time I would give anything to go back to. Just for one day. East of the River is Guadalupe’s memoir of growing up in East Los Angeles in the ’90s. Through her memories, photographs and archive, she takes us into her family, friendships, music, parties, fashion, the streets and the culture of East L.A. and Boyle Heights. I was so moved by a Los Angeles that is almost never shown. A Los Angeles that intimately belongs to us. Our neighborhoods. Our families. Our music. The way we dressed. The way we talked. The parties. The streets. And even if you’re not from Los Angeles, there is so much in this book you will connect with. It gives you a glimpse into what it was like growing up in a time before cell phones, when we experienced the world and each other so differently. Go to your favorite bookstore or local library and get your copy of East of the River today. This year we are reading more!!!
